Today’s the day of vacation- thank you Mom & Dad for the timeshare, we are SO excited! Since I can’t use my phone, I’ll be the official blog writer for the week for myself, Annie, & Kerilyn (who gets here Sunday!). Our adventure began at the crack of dawn to get to the airport (Thanks Elliot!)….let’s just say we took the “scenic” route. As soon as we got there, we discovered that our 9:10 flight had a two-turned-three hour delay. YUCK. We ended up on a different 11:15 am flight. Despite the alternative flight, we were still going to miss our 2:20 connecting flight from Miami, leaving us with no choice but the 7:05 flight, which sucked a big one. We each grabbed a delicious mass-produced cheeseburger from an Island Café chain in the Miami Airport (which I have grown to hate…. the airport, not food). I also had a pina colada because let’s face it, I needed a drink like six hours ago. I’ve accepted alcoholism as a possible side effect of this vacation.
As we did some very productive sitting around, I decided to check the weather for Cayman for the first time (smart, I know) only to discover a tropical weather alert for a “Super Typhoon Songda”. It sounds like a totally super awesome cool Six Flags ride, but it actually just means really sucky weather for us. Also, the temperature was in Celsius degrees, which took me a good couple of minutes to realize….. for whatever reason I could NOT understand why the F*** it was 28.1 degrees on a tropical island. However, I can approximate it was about 28.1 degrees Fahrenheit in the Miami airport, despite the 93 degree weather outside. Phenomenal. While we were waiting, we also picked up a delicious bottle of Malibu rum for 17 bucks. Screw souvenirs, you’re all getting a bottle of booze. Bottoms up.
Of course, the 7:05 flight was delayed, but we still arrived in Cayman just before 7:30 (the USA is an hour ahead). I was convinced the pilot was going to land the plane in the water, but I had Ellie (Annie’s pillow pet that I have now decided to have joint ownership over) to keep me safe. Needless to say, it was an experience getting off the plane as we got to walk down the steps of the plane instead of a terminal ramp for the first time. I felt like the president, except a lot cooler. Which I obviously am. We both took one look at the airport and died laughing. It’s a hut. There are approximately three rooms in the entire place, and ONE luggage carousel. It’s essentially a Little Tikes play airport. We ended up with a fantastic taxi driver Paula (they drive on the left side of the road here, fun fact) who was giving us all sorts of info- we are definitely using her for our ride back next Friday & if we ever need a ride!
We finally got to our condo @ Seven Mile Beach Resort & are in love. It’s perfect. I wish I could fit everyone in my suitcase, but I wouldn’t have been able to fit all my alcohol if I had done that! I’m sure you all understand. (KIDDING, I brought a couple outfits too, jeez). We are going to go exploring in a hot minute, then crash & do a bunch of exploring/grocery shopping/eating/shopping/eating tomorrow. I’m seriously considering a particularly interesting souvenir for myself…. you’ll all just have to wait & see ;)
Ciao for now- stay tuned for more news & pictures!
p.s. I'm actually not an alcoholic, I just like to pretend to save face.
p.p.s. Annie just gave me a “Best Friends” Christmas ornament. It’s May. I love her.
